A 36-year-old auto-rickshaw (Pragya) rider, Joseph Nyarko, has been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour by the Odumase Krobo Circuit Court.
The court found him guilty of defiling a 12-year-old girl in Somanya in the Eastern Region and infecting her with HIV.
Following the conviction, the court handed down the custodial sentence after determining the seriousness of the offence.
The case has drawn attention to ongoing concerns about child protection and sexual offences in communities, with authorities continuing to warn the public against such crimes.
