Three people have been killed and nine others injured following a fresh gun attack on Odomi, a community in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.

The latest violence erupted on Thursday evening when unidentified gunmen reportedly invaded the community amid the protracted conflict in the area, sparking fear and chaos among residents already living under persistent tension.

The injured victims were rushed to the Nkwanta St. Joseph Catholic Hospital for emergency medical attention. Hospital authorities confirmed that one of the injured later died while receiving treatment, while two others had been brought to the facility dead after they were reportedly attacked on their farms.

The identities of the attackers remain unknown, and the circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.

Meanwhile, security agencies, backed by military personnel, have intensified patrols in and around the municipality in a bid to restore calm and prevent further attacks.

The incident comes barely a week after the Oti Regional House of Chiefs announced the establishment of a seven-member committee to help resolve the long-standing conflict in Nkwanta South.

The committee, yet to be inaugurated, is expected to engage key stakeholders and propose lasting solutions to the recurring unrest in the area.
