The Ghana Police Service has urged final-year Senior High School students to celebrate responsibly as the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) comes to an end on Friday, June 19.

In a statement, the Police cautioned students against engaging in acts of violence, vandalism, and any other unlawful behaviour, stressing that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

According to the Service, criminal conduct during post-examination celebrations could have serious consequences, potentially jeopardising students’ futures and undoing years of hard work and academic sacrifice.

The warning follows recent incidents of student unrest in the Upper East Region.

At Zebilla Senior High Technical School, two students were arrested in connection with the alleged arson of a teacher’s apartment. In a separate incident at Bawku Senior High School, four students were apprehended for allegedly engaging in rioting, assaulting school staff, and destroying both school and private property.

The Ghana Police Service called on students, parents, guardians, and school authorities to work together to promote discipline, respect, and peaceful celebrations as candidates complete their examinations.

The Service reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order, reminding students that while the end of WASSCE is a moment worth celebrating, it must be done responsibly and within the confines of the law.
