An elderly woman has lost her life after being hit by a moving vehicle while attempting to cross the George W. Bush Highway near the Lapaz–Tema Station in Accra.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred around 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 29, raising renewed concerns over the continued refusal by some pedestrians to use the footbridge in the area.

Eyewitnesses said the deceased, who was popularly known around the community for collecting used sachet water, tried to cross the busy highway despite the presence of a nearby pedestrian footbridge.

Police officers later arrived at the scene and conveyed the body to the morgue pending further investigations.

The driver involved in the accident has been directed to report to the Lapaz Police Station as investigations continue.
