GES Announces 2026/27 Academic Calendar, Sets 2027 BECE for May
GES has announced the 2026/27 academic calendar for basic schools, with the 2027 BECE scheduled for May 5 to May 12.

- First term begins on September 8, 2026.
- 2027 BECE will run from May 5 to May 12.
- Academic year ends on July 22, 2027.
The Ghana Education Service has released the approved academic calendar for the 2026/27 school year for basic schools nationwide.
The calendar applies to Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools and includes reopening dates, vacation periods, mid-term breaks, and the timetable for the 2027 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
According to GES, the first term will begin on September 8, 2026, and end on December 17, 2026. Students will go on vacation from December 18, 2026, to January 4, 2027, while a mid-term break has been scheduled for November 5 and 6, 2026.
The second term is expected to start on January 5, 2027, and end on March 25, 2027. The vacation period for the term will run from March 26 to April 19, 2027.
For the third term, schools will reopen on April 20, 2027, and close on July 22, 2027, officially ending the academic year.
GES also announced that the 2027 BECE will be conducted from Wednesday, May 5, to Wednesday, May 12, 2027.
The Service reminded schools and stakeholders to observe all public holidays within the academic calendar and noted that each term will include a two-day mid-term break for all basic schools.
GES further encouraged school heads, teachers, parents, and guardians to take note of the dates and make the necessary preparations for a smooth and successful academic year.
