A heartbreaking incident unfolded at Patra Mulagummi Waterfall on Thursday, where four teenage girls reportedly slipped into the water while trying to take a selfie at the popular tourist site.
Fatalities and Rescue Efforts
Authorities confirmed that three of the girls lost their lives instantly after being carried away by powerful currents. Eyewitnesses and nearby residents quickly rushed in to help and initiated rescue efforts before emergency responders arrived.
One of the girls was pulled out alive but in critical condition. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital by locals, where she continues to receive urgent medical care under close supervision.
Victims Identified
Preliminary police investigations revealed that the victims were from Jumbuvalasa village in Hukumpeta Mandal. They had visited the waterfall area in Anantagiri for leisure when the tragic incident occurred.
Police have since opened a case into the accidental drowning, and the bodies of the deceased have been transported for autopsy in line with legal procedures.
Renewed Safety Concerns
The tragedy once again raises concerns about safety at tourist attractions, particularly waterfalls and hilly areas within the ASR district. Authorities have repeatedly cautioned visitors against standing on slippery edges for photos.
Officials are now expected to reassess safety protocols at the site, including installing warning signs and protective barriers in high-risk areas frequently visited by tourists and young people.
