ECG to Upgrade Transformers in Parts of Accra
Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) begins replacement and upgrade of 12 transformers across six substations from April 8

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will begin a major transformer replacement and upgrade project in parts of Accra starting Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
The initiative, approved by the Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, aims to improve the reliability, stability, and overall capacity of the city’s power supply.
ECG announced that 12 transformers across six primary substations will be replaced or upgraded in the areas of Adenta, La, Teshie-Nungua, Nmai-Dzor, Baatsonaa, and Lashibi.
Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku said that the project will involve brief, planned power outages in the affected communities. These interruptions are necessary to ensure the safety of personnel and the smooth execution of the works.
The company emphasised that the upgrade is part of broader efforts to strengthen the electricity infrastructure and enhance service delivery for residents and businesses in Accra.
