Kadjebi police arrest farmer over alleged killing of girlfriend’s elderly mother

The Kadjebi District Police Command has taken a 36-year-old farmer into custody over the alleged killing of an 80-year-old woman in the Oti Region.
Police identified the suspect as Chalim Madzaton, also known as Peter Tano, who was apprehended at a hideout in Kpaya, a suburb of Ahamansu, following an intelligence-led operation.
The suspect is being held in connection with the death of Dakolor Semaka, believed to be the mother of his girlfriend.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the attack occurred on March 24, 2026, at their residence in Mangoase, near Kadjebi. During the incident, Ms. Tugbenyo, 55, the suspect’s girlfriend, reportedly escaped but returned later to find her mother lying motionless.
Police officers who visited the scene observed visible signs of violence on the deceased and documented the scene with photographs to support ongoing investigations.
A medical officer at St. Mary Theresa Hospital later confirmed the death, and the body has been preserved at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
“The suspect remains in police custody and is cooperating with investigations. He is expected to be arraigned in court,” the police statement said.
