Michael Randrianirina has dismissed the country’s prime minister and the entire cabinet, according to a statement issued by the presidency on Monday.

The move comes months after President Randrianirina took power in Madagascar in October following widespread youth-led protests that forced former president Andry Rajoelina from office.

In a statement, the Director of Communications at the presidency, Harry Laurent Rahajason, said the president will soon appoint a new prime minister in line with constitutional procedures.

He noted that the appointment process would follow the provisions outlined in the country’s constitution.

However, the presidency did not provide any explanation for the decision to dissolve the cabinet.
