Joseph Akasake Abaa, the Bongo District Chief Executive (DCE), has passed away following a short illness, according to sources. He died at the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga on Sunday, February 22, 2026.

Alhaji Tahiru Aberinga, Bongo Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), confirmed the news, describing it as “shocking and unexpected.”

Appointed by President John Dramani Mahama and confirmed by the Bongo District Assembly in April 2025, Mr. Abaa had previously served three terms as an Assembly Member for Zorko-Goo-Awaah.

He also held key roles within the NDC, including Youth Organiser and Constituency Secretary in 2022.

Beyond politics, Mr. Abaa worked as a storekeeper at Sirigu Integrated Senior High School and Zuarungu Senior High School. His death marks a profound loss for the Bongo community and the wider constituency he served.
