The Ashanti Regional Police Command has apprehended a 53-year-old man over the alleged production and sale of locally made alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks believed to be mixed with narcotic substances.
The arrest was carried out during an intelligence-driven operation by the Drug Law Enforcement Unit at De-Vicky’s pub in Akyeremade, located in the Atwima Kwawoma District of the Ashanti Region.
A search conducted at a storeroom on the premises led to the discovery of seven barrels of locally distilled dry gin, commonly known as akpeteshie, 56 bottles of branded Alomo gin filled with the local spirit, two gallons of sobolo, and one barrel of the same beverage.
Preliminary police assessments suggest the drinks may have been laced with narcotic substances.
The suspect remains in police custody and is cooperating with investigators, while the seized items have been secured for forensic analysis.
