Fire Service attributes decline to improved prevention measures and public cooperation

The Ashanti Region recorded 132 fire incidents between January 1 and January 31, 2026, representing a notable decline from the 187 cases reported during the same period in 2025.
The Ashanti Regional Fire Command Public Relations Officer, DO III Peter Addai, acknowledged public concerns arising from some high-profile fire outbreaks that caused extensive damage to markets, shops, and other properties.
Despite these incidents, he noted that the overall statistics point to significant improvements in fire prevention and response efforts across the region, stressing that there is no cause for alarm.
“We have been able to reduce fire incidence by about 45 cases, which is really impressive,” he said. “Even a single fire can cause serious damage, so achieving this reduction is a major success for the command.”
The Ashanti Regional Fire Command has therefore renewed its call on residents and business operators to strictly adhere to fire safety regulations and remain vigilant, emphasizing that sustained public cooperation is essential to maintaining the downward trend in fire outbreaks across the region.
