Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has called on party delegates to entrust him with the mandate to lead the party as its presidential candidate for the 2028 general election.
In a televised address to national delegates on Thursday, January 29, 2026, the former Assin Central Member of Parliament outlined a leadership vision rooted in unity, internal democracy, industrialisation, and job creation.
Mr Agyapong assured delegates that his leadership would reject vindictiveness and intimidation within the party, stressing that he would protect the grassroots and uphold the NPP’s democratic culture.
“I do not believe in revenge politics, and I will not tolerate any attempt to shrink the party by threatening its grassroots. Be assured of this,” he declared.
He emphasised that the NPP’s enduring strength lies in its commitment to internal democracy and courage, urging delegates to defend those core values.
“The NPP was built on courage and internal democracy. So, I say to you, stand firm,” he said.
Touching on his broader national vision, Mr Agyapong said industrialisation and employment—particularly for the youth—would be the central focus of his administration if elected flagbearer.
“I stand for industrialisation, and that’s all my message. I am also for employment and jobs. What we need in this country is employment for the youth. So please give me the opportunity to serve you, and I will not disappoint you,” he added.
The NPP’s flagbearership election is scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026, and will be conducted nationwide.
Party leadership, working closely with the Electoral Commission, has assured delegates that all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth, free, and credible electoral process.
