The Ghana Police Service, through its National Operations Directorate Surveillance Unit, has arrested a man in connection with the alleged possession of counterfeit foreign currency and an unlicensed firearm.

The arrest took place in Ablekuma, Greater Accra Region, with the suspect identified as Josiah Elorm Kwame Amezado.

Police said the operation followed intelligence suggesting that a self-styled fetish priest in the area was involved in criminal activities and unlawfully possessing a firearm, posing a potential threat to local residents.

A search of the suspect’s room reportedly uncovered large quantities of US dollar notes in $100 denominations, a Kuzey A100 blank pistol, 58 rounds of 9mm blank ammunition, a pair of handcuffs, and a black vest.

“The suspect is currently in police custody while investigations continue to verify the source and authenticity of the currency,” the police statement said. Authorities are also probing the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm and other recovered items.
