A 19-year-old, Prince Bentum, has been sentenced to six months in prison by the Tarkwa District Magistrate Court One for stealing GH¢5,000 and two mobile phones from a co-worker.

Bentum, who pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and theft, worked alongside the complainant, Degraft Hagan, at a mineral water company in Railway Quarters, Tarkwa. Hagan, a student, lived in a sectioned-off area of a shared hall, while Bentum and other staff resided in the main hall.

On September 27, 2025, when Hagan and some workers went out for deliveries, Bentum allegedly unlocked Hagan’s room and took an iPhone 7 Plus with charger (valued at GH¢1,650), a Tecno phone with a broken screen, and GH¢5,000 in cash. He then fled, taking his belongings with him.

Hagan reported the theft to their employer, Isaac Esuon. Bentum was later spotted on October 2, 2025, in Twifo Praso using the repaired Tecno phone he had stolen. He was arrested and taken to the Tarkwa police station, where Hagan formally lodged a complaint.

During investigations, Bentum admitted stealing the mobile phones, charger, and GH¢2,500 of the cash, but denied taking the full GH¢5,000. He said part of the money was spent on clothes, food, and repairing the Tecno phone.

Police recovered the iPhone 7 Plus, charger, the Tecno phone, GH¢2,600 from Bentum’s mobile money account, and items he purchased with the stolen money, including clothing. All items and funds were retained as evidence.
