The historic seat of the Asante Kingdom, Manhyia Palace, is set to issue an official update after the conclusion of a crucial round of mediation talks spearheaded by the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to find a lasting solution to the protracted Bawku conflict.

In a significant departure from earlier engagements, Monday’s session marked the first time representatives of the Kusaasi and the Mamprusi appeared jointly before the Asantehene.

Both delegations arrived under tight security, subjected to thorough screening before being escorted into the palace auditorium for the closed-door meeting.

Sources close to the talks reveal that the Asantehene patiently heard submissions from both sides and appealed for calm and cooperation, working closely with the Presidency of Ghana to push for a sustainable resolution to the long-standing dispute.

Moments after the meeting, jubilant supporters of the two factions gathered outside the palace in celebration. However, the excitement briefly escalated into confusion, prompting swift intervention by police and military personnel. Reinforcements were deployed to restore calm.

Both sides are now awaiting an official statement from Manhyia Palace to outline the next steps in the peace process.
