The children of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, have paid an emotional tribute to their mother, remembering her as a woman of conviction, strength, and lasting influence whose legacy will continue to shape their lives and Ghana.
Speaking on behalf of his siblings during the funeral ceremony at Black Star Square on Friday, November 28, Kimathi Rawlings expressed the family’s deep sorrow and admiration.
“Mom, queen of our hearts, your legacy lives on through the lessons you taught us, the love you shared, and the examples you set. Mom, we love and miss you,” he said.
Kimathi highlighted Nana Konadu’s life of courage, purpose, and unwavering dedication to the nation.
“You lived with a conviction that shaped both our family and the country. A woman who loved her country and celebrated it at every opportunity. No problem was too small for you to tackle personally, and no situation was ever beyond your expertise,” he remarked.
Describing her as a woman of action, Kimathi emphasized that the movements she championed and her tireless advocacy for equality would leave a lasting mark on Ghana for generations.
“You will be remembered as a woman of action. The movements you led and your pursuit of equality will continue to shape Ghana. You lived your values without reservation. Your conviction gave courage to countless women and inspired the nation’s democratic progress,” he said.
Kimathi also reflected on Nana Konadu’s partnership with her husband, the late President Jerry John Rawlings, noting the trust and respect he placed in her.
“Our father trusted you completely because you had an unfailing ability to perceive purpose and possibility. You were far more than a right-hand; you were strategic, clear-minded, and unwavering,” he said.
He added that she was a protector, confidante, and friend to her family, and an exceptional grandmother—funny, generous, wise, strict, trendy, and above all, kind.
