- Daddy Lumba’s family rejects December 13 funeral date, calling it unauthorised
- Concerns include ongoing investigations, children’s exams, and international mourners’ travel plans
- Family urges public and media to ignore all unauthorised announcements and promises a dignified, well-organised funeral
The family of legendary highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has dismissed reports that his funeral will be held on December 13, 2025, describing the date as unauthorised, misleading, and not reflective of any family decision.
In a statement released on Monday, November 24, family members, including Daddy Lumba’s sister, condemned Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu and the dissolved funeral committee for putting up billboards and issuing public notices without the family’s approval.
The family stated that the proposed date was never agreed upon and is unfeasible due to several outstanding issues, including:
-
Ongoing autopsy processes and investigations in Ghana and Germany.
-
Children abroad preparing for major examinations.
-
Family members needing sufficient notice to apply for leave.
-
International mourners requiring time to arrange travel.
The statement also accuses Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu of unlawfully withdrawing GHS 200,000 from a CalBank account, despite a court directive barring him from making any financial transactions.
Additionally, the family highlighted breaches of prior mediation agreements that had dissolved the former funeral committee and prohibited unilateral decisions.
Describing the attempt to set a December burial as “suspicious,” the family insists no funeral date has been approved and urges the public, traditional leaders, and media to disregard all unauthorised announcements.
They reaffirmed their commitment to a dignified, well-organised funeral and pledged to support transparent investigations into all related matters.
