A couple in Kokrobite, Ga South Municipality, Greater Accra Region, has been arrested for allegedly beating their 13-year-old daughter, Celestine, to death after accusing her of taking food meant for her younger brother.
According to reports, the father, Issah Mohammed, and his partner, Yaa Grace, assaulted the girl after the stepmother informed him of the alleged incident upon his return from work.
Investigations indicate that Issah had previously divorced Celestine’s biological mother due to repeated abusive behavior and was now living with Yaa Grace, who is also implicated in the case.
Eyewitnesses say Issah used a cane, shovel, and cutlass to beat Celestine, causing severe internal injuries. The couple then locked her in a separate room without food or water, where she reportedly died the following day.
Suspicious neighbors alerted the police, leading to the couple’s arrest.
A relative of Celestine’s biological mother, Justina Acquah, condemned the incident, citing Issah’s history of abuse and calling for justice.
The Kokrobite District Police Command has launched an investigation, and Celestine’s body has been sent to the Police Hospital for autopsy.
