Kwame Tanko, Morning Show host of Lawson TV&Radio, has fired back at the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, following the Minister’s visit to Sandra Baafi Boateng, one of the victims of the recent Baba Yara Stadium stampede during the GAF recruitment exercise.

The Minister visited Sandra at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi shortly after a report highlighting her critical condition was aired.

He later posted a photo of the visit on his Facebook handle with a caption referring to Tanko and his team as “Lawson TV, Jandam,” which, according to Tanko, caused him deep pain.

Speaking on the show this morning, Tanko expressed his disappointment and defended his reporting:

“I leave it to God if you call my work as Jandam, I pity you, we are all equal. If we can visit the injured ones in Accra, equally we can visit the injured ones in Kumasi.”

Tanko stressed that his reporting aims to highlight the plight of the victims and ensure accountability:

“I pity the Regional Minister if, after my report, he visits the injured Sandra Boateng and later calls me ‘Jandam.’ If he describes what we have done and calls it Jandam, he should be ready for more Jandam. I leave it to God if I  lied yesterday; my soul and heart are saddened, and we leave it to the public and God to decide who is truly doing Jandam.”

He further asserted that media freedom and truth-telling cannot be silenced:

“Nobody, I repeat, nobody in this country can shut our mouth. If the truth is there, we will speak it and continue to speak it as it is. You can turn me into Jandam, and I will continue to do my work. We serve a living God.”
