Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has dismissed claims linking his leadership style as Minority Leader to the recent disruptions in Parliament, calling such comparisons misleading and unfair.
Speaking at the launch of a scholarship scheme for MPs on Monday, November 17, 2025, Bagbin urged colleagues and the public to focus on facts rather than popular narratives.
He specifically addressed comments by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who suggested he drew inspiration from Bagbin’s past leadership.
“What the Minority Leader is doing now is not what I did. He has claimed to take inspiration from my report. Please read my report. I never raised my voice on the floor, nor did I attempt to assert power in that way,” Bagbin said.
He emphasized that his approach was rooted in measured judgment and careful observation of the political climate.
“I study the political environment, test the pulse of the people, and then respond accordingly. I didn’t act the way you are acting,” Bagbin added, highlighting the contrast between his leadership and current parliamentary conduct.
