  • Applicants will be grouped into batches of 600 and notified via SMS; family members barred from centres
  • Victims of the previous stampede continue receiving care

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced the resumption of its 2025/2026 recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region starting Thursday, November 20, 2025, following the suspension caused by the tragic stampede at El-Wak Stadium on November 12, which claimed six lives and injured multiple applicants.

In a statement from the Department of Public Relations at Burma Camp, signed by Acting Director General Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin (Ghana Navy), the GAF revealed that the screening process will now be conducted across eight sub-centres in five key locations to ensure safety and efficiency.

The centres are:

  • El-Wak Stadium – 2 centres

  • Nicholson Park, Burma Camp – 2 centres

  • Air Force Base, Burma Camp

  • Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Teshie – 2 centres

  • Eastern Naval Command, Tema

All qualified applicants, grouped into batches of 600, will receive SMS notifications with their reporting dates, batch numbers, and designated centres. Applicants are advised to regularly check the recruitment portal and follow all instructions carefully. Those who do not receive a message by November 20 can call 0256405104 or send a WhatsApp message to 0256405154 for assistance, and verification is also available via the portal.

To reduce congestion, family members and friends will not be allowed at the centres, and non-applicants will be denied entry.

The GAF confirmed that the Board of Inquiry investigating the circumstances behind the November 12 stampede is ongoing. To ensure a fair process, the Greater Accra recruitment team has been entirely replaced. The new officers overseeing the exercise include Commodore F.A. Nyarko – Director General, Human Resource; Colonel F. Kusi-Darko – Director, Manpower; and Colonel G.B. Eduah – Director, Information Technology.

Victims of the previous stampede will continue to receive free medical care at the 37 Military Hospital until full recovery. The GAF also announced a special recruitment package for the injured after recovery, as well as for the families of those who lost their lives.
