Armed men dressed in police uniforms reportedly claiming to be National Security personnel attacked the palace of the Paramount Chief of the Kwahu Traditional Council at Abene in the early hours of Monday, November 17, 2025, around 4 a.m.
Residents said gunshots were heard inside the palace before the alleged abduction of the Kwahuhemaa, Nana Adwoa Gyemfua, who was present during the attack.
The official Toyota Land Cruiser of the Kwahuhene was also taken during the raid, with tracking information showing the vehicle is headed toward Accra.
The motive for the assault and abduction remains unknown. Both the Nkawkaw and Kwahu Divisional Police Commands stated they had no prior knowledge of any operation by personnel claiming to be from National Security.
Sources say the incident has heightened fear among local residents amid ongoing tensions related to the Kwahu Chieftaincy disputes. Authorities have not yet released official statements, and investigations into the attack are ongoing.
