A Cape Coast Circuit Court has sentenced 26-year-old Eric Asamoah to 16 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a seven-year-old boy at Mankessim in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.
Asamoah pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted by the presiding judge, Mrs. Nana Aba Quaiba Nunoo.
According to Chief Inspector Simon Sartey, the prosecutor, the convict and the victim both lived in Nananom, a suburb of Mankessim. He told the court that Asamoah repeatedly assaulted the boy whenever the area was quiet.
The victim later fell ill and confided in his father about his ordeal. He was taken to the Saltpond Municipal Hospital, where he was admitted and is responding to treatment.
Following investigations, the police, with assistance from the victim’s father, arrested Asamoah on Monday, November 3, leading to his conviction and sentencing.
