Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed they are offering full support to defender Destiny Udogie after reports that the Italy international was allegedly threatened at gunpoint by a football agent.

The incident is said to have taken place in London on 6 September, according to a BBC Sport report. Another man was also allegedly blackmailed and threatened by the same suspect. Police say no one was injured.

The Metropolitan Police have since arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear, blackmail, and driving without a licence. The suspect was taken into custody on 8 September and later released on bail while investigations continue.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Spurs said:

“We have been providing support for Destiny and his family since the incident and will continue to do so. Given this is a legal matter, we cannot comment further.”

Background

Udogie, 22, joined Tottenham from Udinese in 2022 for a reported £15 million, signing a five-year contract before returning to the Italian club on loan for one season.

He has since established himself as a key player under the Spurs setup, making 76 appearances since his return for the 2023–24 campaign. The left-back has earned 12 caps for Italy and featured 10 times this season, including in Tottenham’s 4–0 Champions League victory over Copenhagen on Tuesday night.
