An Accra Circuit Court has arraigned a couple accused of defrauding a public servant of GH¢36,000 under the guise of renting out an apartment at Dzorwulu, Accra.

The accused, Salomey Vedomey, a trader, and Nana Obeng Tandoh, a businessman, allegedly collected the money on July 7, 2025, after claiming they owned a chamber-and-hall apartment available for rent.

They have both been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and defrauding by false pretences. The couple pleaded not guilty before the court, presided over by Mrs. Susana Eduful.

The court granted each of them bail of GH¢50,000, with two sureties to be justified by title deed documents deposited at the court registry. The prosecution has been ordered to file its disclosures, and the case has been adjourned to December 2, 2025, for the Case Management Conference.

According to the prosecution, the complainant, a public servant living in Dansoman, had been searching for accommodation through an agent who introduced her to Salomey at the supposed Dzorwulu residence.

Salomey allegedly posed as the apartment owner, claiming it belonged to her and her husband. She offered it for rent at GH¢1,500 per month, requesting a two-year advance payment. She assured the complainant that minor renovation works would be completed within two weeks.

On July 7, 2025, the complainant and her father met the couple at the apartment. Salomey introduced Tandoh as her husband, and both received GH¢36,000 in the complainant’s car, issuing a signed receipt in Tandoh’s name.

However, two weeks later, Salomey reportedly began giving excuses and later claimed that her husband had absconded with the money. The complainant subsequently lodged a complaint with the police, leading to their arrest.

During interrogation, Salomey denied the allegations, while Tandoh admitted to the offence. Police investigations further revealed that the couple had defrauded multiple victims using the same apartment.
