A 23-year-old mother, Akua Afriyie, has been arrested for allegedly killing her four-year-old son by throwing him into a well in Karlo, a community in the Suaman District of the Western North Region.
According to the Karlo Electoral Area Assembly Member, Eric Armah, he received an emergency call about a child who had fallen into a well. Upon arrival with some residents, they discovered the child’s lifeless body floating in the water.
The matter was swiftly reported to the Dadieso Police Station. While officers were at the station, a young woman arrived claiming her son had accidentally fallen into a well. However, police investigations and eyewitness statements soon revealed that the woman, who turned out to be the boy’s mother, may have intentionally caused the child’s death.
She was immediately taken into custody for further questioning.
The child’s body has been deposited at the Enchi Government Hospital morgue for autopsy as investigations continue.
