Kufuor, Akufo-Addo to Address NPP National Delegates Conference Virtually on July 19
Former Presidents cite unavoidable circumstances for absence; will deliver key messages via video at crucial post-election gathering.

- Kufuor and Akufo-Addo to address NPP's 2025 Delegates Conference virtually
- Both ex-presidents unavailable to attend due to reasons beyond their control
- Conference to focus on party reforms and rebuilding after 2024 election defeat
Former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will deliver virtual addresses to delegates at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2025 National Delegates Conference, scheduled for Saturday, July 19, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra.
According to party insiders, both leaders are unable to attend in person due to reasons described as “beyond their control.”
Nana Akufo-Addo, who is currently abroad, will not return in time for the high-stakes gathering. Similarly, Kufuor, though recently active in party-related activities, including the inauguration of the Patriotic Institute, will also be absent from the venue.
This will be the first major national gathering of the NPP following its defeat in the 2024 general elections. Delegates from across Ghana’s 16 regions will converge to discuss key constitutional reforms and strategies to rebuild the party’s image and reconnect with its base ahead of the 2028 elections.
The conference, themed “Rebuilding Together with Our Values,” will feature discussions on proposed constitutional amendments, including long-standing reforms recommended by the Mike Oquaye Committee and unresolved proposals from the 2019 conference in Kumasi.
The party’s National Council was formally notified of the former presidents’ virtual participation during a meeting on Wednesday.
As the NPP looks to bounce back from electoral setbacks, the absence of its two living former presidents from the event hall will be symbolic—but their virtual contributions are expected to inspire renewed commitment to the party’s founding ideals.
