Manchester City defender Rico Lewis has received a further two-match suspension following his red card in their Club World Cup opener against Wydad Casablanca.

The 20-year-old England international was sent off in the 88th minute of City’s 2-0 victory over the Moroccan champions in Philadelphia last Wednesday.

He served an automatic one-match suspension during Monday’s 6-0 win over Al Ain in Atlanta.

However, FIFA’s disciplinary committee has now ruled the challenge as “serious foul play,” extending Lewis’s ban by two additional matches. City appealed the decision, but the appeal was rejected.

As a result, Lewis will be unavailable for Thursday’s clash against Juventus and City’s round-of-16 match.

Despite his absence, Pep Guardiola’s side has already secured a spot in the knockout stage after back-to-back group stage wins.
