The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced a revised schedule for the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to address disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In response to the altered student contact hours during the pandemic, the GES has been implementing a transitional calendar aimed at returning to the traditional May/June exam period.

According to a recent statement, incoming First Year students for Single Track and Transitional Schools will begin their academic year on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

All continuing students in Single Track Schools will also reopen on the same date.

The GES noted that this revised schedule is intended to ensure that the school calendar starts in September next year, paving the way for the final year students to write their 2025/2026 WASSCE in May/June.

For the next two years, the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will be held in June.

The 2025 WASSCE candidates are scheduled to take their exams from July to August, while the 2026 candidates will sit for their exams in the traditional May to June timeframe.
