Wontumi Withdraws Motion to Challenge GH¢50m Bail
Legal team pulls application a day before scheduled court hearing in Accra

- Wontumi withdrew his motion to review the GH¢50 million bail conditions
- Legal team filed withdrawal a day before the scheduled June 3 court hearing
- Remains in EOCO custody amid investigations linking him to international crime
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has retracted his application seeking a review of his GH¢50 million bail.
The motion, initially filed on May 30, 2025, at the High Court in Accra, was set to be heard on Tuesday, June 3. However, his legal representatives officially pulled the request on Monday, June 2 — just a day before the scheduled hearing.
Wontumi had contested the bail amount imposed by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), claiming through his attorneys that the figure was excessively high and could hinder his ability to secure release.
He has remained in EOCO custody since May 28, 2025, facing serious allegations including fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering. According to Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai, ongoing investigations have reportedly uncovered links between Wontumi and an international organised crime network.
