A tragic case of relationship violence has led to the death of a 29-year-old mobile phone dealer, Daniel Omane, from Koforidua, following an acid attack by his girlfriend, Vera Akosua Asare.
According to reports, Vera had moved in with Daniel after the birth of their daughter, now two years old.
However, tensions grew between the couple as Vera repeatedly accused Daniel of flirting with other women. The persistent misunderstandings eventually led Daniel to end the relationship.
In a shocking turn of events, Vera reportedly poured acid on Daniel while he was asleep. His screams drew the attention of neighbors, who rushed to the scene to find Vera attempting to flee. She was apprehended by the residents and handed over to the Police.
Daniel, who suffered severe burns, was initially taken to the Eastern Regional Hospital and later transferred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
Vera was granted bail at the time to care for their child.
However, following Daniel’s death from his injuries, police have re-arrested her to face fresh charges related to his murder.
