2026 World Cup: Julius Debrah Inaugurates 11-Member Oversight Committee

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has inaugurated an 11-member Ministerial Oversight Committee to coordinate Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The ceremony took place on Wednesday, November 26, at the Jubilee House.

In his address, Mr. Debrah urged the committee to carry out its mandate with integrity, diligence, and unwavering commitment. He also encouraged the members to explore broader national opportunities presented by the World Cup, beyond football.

Ghana sealed qualification for the tournament with a 1–0 win over Comoros on October 12 in Accra — marking the Black Stars’ fifth World Cup appearance since 2006.

Members of the Ministerial Oversight Committee for Ghana’s 2026 World Cup Participation:

  2. Hon. Kofi Adams – Ministry of Sports and Recreation

  3. Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa – Ministry of Foreign Affairs

  4. Hon. George Opare – Ministry of Youth Development

  5. Hon. Yusif Jajah – Ministry of Tourism and Culture (Deputy Minister)

  6. Ampem Nyarkoh – Ministry of Finance (Deputy Minister)

  7. Kurt Okraku – Ghana Football Association (Chairman)

  8. Elizabeth Yankah – Deputy National Security Coordinator

  9. Abedi Pele – Former Professional Footballer

  10. Mrs. Wilhelmina Asamoah – Ministry of Sports (Chief Director)

  11. One member yet to be named

Meanwhile, the government has allocated GH¢150 million to support the Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup campaign. This was confirmed by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson during the 2026 Budget Statement presentation on November 13. The funding will cover preparations, logistics, and other essential needs for Ghana’s participation in the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
