“2024 Election and Ablekuma North Violence Prove NDC Still Uses Thugs” – Manhyia South MP Baffour Awuah
Manhyia South MP Accuses NDC of Fueling Electoral Violence and Ignoring Vigilantism Law

- NDC still operates with thugs, despite the Vigilantism Act, says Baffour Awuah
- NPP disbanded Delta Force and Invisible Forces
- MP warns NPP may be forced to defend itself if security agencies remain ineffective
Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Hon. Lawyer Baffour Awuah, has expressed grave concern over the escalating political violence in Ghana, particularly following the Ablekuma North electoral rerun.
Speaking on the Ghana Se Sen morning show with Kwame Tanko on Lawson TV/Radio, the MP accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of fueling chaos through unchecked vigilantism.
According to the MP, electoral disturbances orchestrated by thugs aligned with the NDC have been ongoing since 1992, with repeated incidents of ballot box snatching and physical violence — especially in NPP’s strongholds like the Ashanti Region.
He alleged that these recurring threats compelled the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to form its own internal security groups such as the Delta Force and Invisible Forces in the past.
“In response to years of provocation and thuggery by the NDC, the NPP was forced to form its own protective groups,” Hon. Baffour Awuah explained. “But when the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act was passed, the NPP complied and disbanded its groups. The NDC, however, did not.”
He cited the violence at the Ablekuma North rerun as evidence of the NDC’s continued reliance on violent tactics. “The police were not adequately resourced at Ablekuma North. By the time they responded, the damage had already been done,” he said, suggesting that the state security apparatus had failed to prevent the chaos.
Hon. Baffour Awuah warned that such incidents, if repeated, would leave the NPP with no choice but to protect itself.
“If the police cannot provide security and this is how the NDC intends to operate, we will be forced to take measures to defend ourselves,” he said pointedly.
He further criticized the current administration under President Mahama, saying the atmosphere in the country is deteriorating under his leadership. “If this is how the NDC is governing, then it is not the best. It is simply not good,” he added.
The Manhyia South MP concluded on a somber note, saying, “We are completely helpless in the country.”
