A 15-year-old boy, identified as Abukari, has been confirmed dead after drowning in the Zabzugu Dam in the Northern Region.

The incident occurred on Saturday, July 19, while Abukari was returning from the farm with his mother. According to reports, upon reaching the dam, his mother asked him to fetch water for her. Instead, the boy unexpectedly chose to dive into the dam, but tragically drowned in the process.

His body could not be located immediately, prompting a two-day search effort. Local authorities and community members, with the support of fishermen from nearby areas, launched an extensive operation to retrieve his remains.

The search ended successfully on the evening of Sunday, July 20, when Abukari’s body was found and brought to shore.

The tragic event has left the Zabzugu community in mourning, with residents expressing sorrow over the untimely death of the young boy.
