In a decisive move to tackle illegal mining, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested 15 individuals during a targeted operation in Watreso and Preacher Krom within the Manso Adubia area.
The suspects, aged between 21 and 45, were caught in the act as they engaged in illegal mining, also known as galamsey.
This intelligence-led operation is part of a broader crackdown by security agencies to curb environmental destruction in the region.

Those arrested include:
Tahiru Ibrahim (24), Shaibu Idrissu (23), Boateng Emmanuel (27), Jamon Kwaku Samuel (21), Yaro Patrick (29), Kofi Boakye (21), Gubong Mathew (45), Fatawu Zackari Seidu (26), Abdul Malik Seidu (22), Dauda Tahiru (23), Sampson Grace (21), Boolangkpuo Freda (24), Arima Hagar (26), Kwarteng Vasco (30), and Kwame Adutwum (24).
Police also seized a cache of equipment and weapons, including:

2 automatic pump-action guns

2 Musler 12 firearms

59 BB cartridges and 3 AA cartridges

1 water pumping machine

2 power generators

1 vulcanising machine

1 Apsonic motorbike

All suspects are in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations, while the confiscated items are being held as evidence.
This latest operation comes amid growing public pressure for the government to declare a state of emergency on mining in water bodies and forest reserves, as illegal mining continues to ravage Ghana’s environment.
