A tragic road accident on Sunday, January 11, 2026, left one person dead and 37 others injured along the Accra–Kumasi Highway at Mankrong, as the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly to the scene.

The crash involved a 40-seater Zhong Tong bus (AS 7022-21) and a Man Diesel truck (GW 3969-U), both reportedly in motion at the time of the collision. Eyewitnesses claimed the bus was traveling at high speed before it slammed into the truck.

Of the injured, 21 were male and 17 female. Truck occupants escaped without injuries. The GNFS team, led by ADO II Bernard Boamah, was dispatched at 0659 hours and arrived at the site by 0707 hours.

The rescue crew extricated the deceased, provided first aid to the injured—including some already transported to Suhum Government Hospital—and cleared the wreckage, restoring traffic flow and ensuring road safety.

The bus suffered extensive front-end damage, while the truck sustained minor rear damage. The GNFS team left the scene at 0857 hours and returned to base at 0952 hours, highlighting the service’s professional and rapid emergency response.

The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety along the busy Accra–Kumasi Highway, a route notorious for high-speed crashes.
